The brief was to create a bespoke home for the clients’ daughter, who has additional needs. The parents, who live next door, wanted a safe, light and contemporary home, with space for a part-time carer to give their daughter independence.
It was vital to create a bright and light space, while ensuring privacy and a sense of sanctuary. Therefore, the front of the house is effectively a standalone apartment/studio to accommodate the daughter’s part-time carer – whereas the rear of the house is the true heart of the home, with views over the gardens.
With connection to nature proven to increase well-being – every room in the house is filled with natural light. Sunken courtyards filled with native trees and shrubs ensure that even the basement is connected to the therapeutic value of nature
