Thrilled to have been appointed to design a Passivhaus home in this tranquil location overlooking the canal. ‘The Boat Yard’ will be all about connection to nature and it’s incredible setting.

All of our bathrooms are flooded with natural light even if windows aren’t possible - we use rooflights creating dramatic shafts of light and that essential connection with nature.

We are excited to have been appointed for the landscape design for one of our houses at Didsbury Park. Plans include a sunken swim spa, changing rooms, snug, external kitchen/BBQ (including this beautiful Gozney pizza oven).

Modern House Architect Didsbury

Amazing to see our two luxury houses handed over. Both have full height glazing to the rear and huge basements providing gym, cinema, sunken courtyards and even snugs hidden below the rear gardens.

Spotted this traditional window detail in Panicale in Italy. The chamfered brickwork maximises the amount of daylight through the window – very similar idea to my contemporary brick detailing for the Foundry (for Capital & Centric).

Warm tones of brass with this basin and taps are complimented with dark earthy tiles creating a dramatic aesthetic within our recent guest toilet design, for a client who wanted rich and dark tones inspired by their love of Marrakesh.

We are big fans of the Little Greene paints and colour ranges at the moment. Lovely subtle tones and highly recommended by decorators for their coverage (and blending when touching up in the future!)

Join The Luxury Home Show for a full guided tour of our project in Didsbury, built to Passivhaus standards in a conservation area. It’s great to see our clients starting to get settled into their new home.

The extensive contemporary landscaping design with integrated swim spa, fire pit, etc coming together on the re-modelling of this home in Mellor. Impressed with the lawn stripes!

I stumbled across these amazing stone masons working on the coastal path rebuilding this traditional stone wall (near the beautiful Polperro in Cornwall). We love traditional craftsmanship and detailing at Edmunds Architects

Architects Model

We like using CGI’s, but it’s easy to select the best view to sell an idea - we love making traditional models too, as there is no hiding and everything has to work. This is also a great way to evolve and develop ideas with our clients.

I love building things in my spare time. Here is the garden office I’ve just built for my wife. It's satisfying crafting things with my own hands - and great to learn how to deliver the design details I draw, so I can be even more useful on site.

We love this textured random flint set against the more orthodox coursing of brickwork – so much so we are proposing a similar sort of idea on a large house extension project in Bowdon.

I came across these stunning light fittings by Moooi a few years ago and have since specified these on a number of contemporary houses. They are sculptural, yet so delicate - adding drama without bulk.

The Ash timber treads with their mitre-locked joints are all ready to be installed onto the steel carcass and finished with an OSMO Polyx Oil Effect Raw 3044 to give that subtle Scandinavian aesthetic.

We used the recessed brick header details as a contemporary interpretation of the ornate brick detailing evident on the adjacent Victorian villas seen with the surrounding conservation area.

Work is underway with the conversion and extension of a Grade II listed building in the Cotswolds. The rear extension is a sensitive contemporary oak frame and glass extension that compliments the historic fabric of the original building

Edmunds Architects are always looking at how we can learn and sometimes take traditional details and materials and interpret them in our modern contemporary designs. We’re still thinking about this one?

We spent a few night at Stormhouse North in Glencoe, Scotland. If you were ever in doubt of the importance of having a connection to nature and the surrounding landscape then check this place out. What a view!

Timber framing almost complete with the rooflight fins underway – we can’t wait to see these fins completed as they will produce some lovely light and shadowing in this corridor space.

We are huge fans of brick detailing (as you can see from our work) and this facade at the Whitworth Gallery is a great example of the richness and visual interest a humble brick can bring to a building.

For clients who like a crisp modern aesthetic, we hide grilles, extractors and clusters of lights within recesses in the ceilings to keep clean lines and uninterrupted views through the house.

My client commissioned these amazingly detailed bespoke lampshades for the main entrance in their triple height entrance space all positioned at different heights to be enjoyed on all floors. We love the detail and craftsmanship!

These projecting metal frames are contemporary interpretation of the traditional bay windows evident in the surrounding conservation area. This details creates very clean lines and expressive shadows on the charred timber cladding.

We’re often asked to incorporate double height living spaces, and one of the best ways to ensure these spaces don’t echo is to introduce acoustic perforated plasterboard into the ceilings to enhance the acoustic environment.

We really like the grain and tone of Ash as an alternative to more commonly used timbers. It looks even better with the OMSO Polyx Oil Effect Raw 3044 (reducing the yellowing effect of traditional oils) creating muted Scandinavian tone.

The contemporary extension to this traditional Arts and Crafts house is really taking shape. The new full height glazing is such a contrast to the small traditional leaded windows and really help connect the interior to the garden.

Looking at different ash timber flooring samples for our client in Liverpool. It's great to see OSMO now do a raw effect oil to really enhance the original character of the grain.

Loving the warm grey tones in these Wienerberger - Forum Smoked Branco bricks. They will look amazing next to our proposed charred timber cladding details.

Really excited about using one of these charred timber cladding finishes. These finishes are low maintenance and only require a further treatment after 6 years.

The non standard long bricks have been delivered to site in Liverpool and they look so elegant. We can't wait to see the sample panel with the Tarmac Y101 white mortar.

Not one of our projects, but we spotted this welsh slate cladding in Pembrokeshire. Love the texture and richness of this finish and would love to do a contemporary interpretation one day.

Sample palette for one of our clients. European bricks, white render (Sto) and a resin bonded gravel driveway to add some warmth whilst still including the tones from the house.

Whenever we design a flat roof that is visible we always incorporate a ballast (pebbles) - it looks so much better and is low maintenance. These ebony black pebbles are one of our favourites.

Loved using this brick detailing which helped animate an otherwise plain wall. It now has interest, depth and beautiful shadows that almost act as a sun dial.
